John, I don't have any experience with larger ice cream makers, but I can suggest a compressor-model ice cream maker. These can batches of ice cream continuously, without stopping to re-freeze the canister. So even though you're still just making a quart at a time, you can make batches all evening. Here's the one I am currently using (I love it):
The Chard Large Ice Maker IM-15SS lets you enjoy cool ice and water on demand. It has a stainless-steel body for outstanding durability and a professional look. This 5-gallon ice maker can process up to 40 lbs of ice per day. You can set up the cube dispenser to produce small, medium or large pieces. The first batch of ice takes only about six minutes to make. Push-button dispensing makes it easy to operate.
